Team Germany 2006

Team Germany 2006 with Julian Autenrieth, Jens Marten, Eike Jacobs, Fabian Kaske and Svenja Weger

They lost only one race in the round robin on 18:18 tied points against the team of Denmark.

In the finals they won both races against the team of Italy, the first one in very heavy winds and the second after a change of the race course in much lighter winds for a final 2:0 victory.

At the subsequent optimist world championships in Uruguay the team reached 3rd place, the first and so far only German team to win a medal in team races at the worlds.

Julian Autenrieth was very successful in individual racing at the worlds in Uruguay and in the very last race, after a poor start, managed to pass current leader Griselda Khng of Singapore on the final upwind to become world champion.

He now sails with his brother Philipp Autenrieth in the Olympic 470 class.

Svenja Weger also sailed in the two-handed 420 and 470 classes for some years but then switched to the women Olympic one-hand class Laser Radial and gained victories in the 2013 Junior World and European Championships in Hungary and in the 2014 Women European Championships in Croatia.
